Battery Essentials is a structured training program that equips your employees with a clear and practical understanding of modern battery development.
Developed by battery expert Tom Bötticher, the program helps your organization build internal battery expertise — a key capability for competing in the rapidly evolving energy and mobility sectors.

Trusted by 1800+ professionals and leading organizations

Battery Essentials enables organizations to efficiently train their teams in battery technology, battery chemistry, and applications in e-mobility and stationary energy storage. The program is valuable for teams in R&D, product management, and technical sales, as well as other technology-focused departments.
Equip your teams with up-to-date knowledge in e-mobility and battery technology. This helps them understand technological developments, drive innovation, and strengthen your company’s competitive position.
Our structured learning modules give new hires essential foundational knowledge fast — reducing onboarding time, relieving senior experts, and lowering training costs.
Enable young professionals in your organization to specialize in battery technology — strengthening their development and securing your company’s long-term competitiveness and innovative capability.

Most publicly available battery information is fragmented, inconsistent, or overly academic. This makes it difficult for employees to build reliable foundational knowledge — and slows down internal decision-making and development processes.
New “breakthrough” battery claims appear almost daily, but without clear context it’s difficult for teams to evaluate what is relevant, feasible, or industry-ready.This creates confusion and leads to misaligned expectations in R&D, product planning, and corporate strategy.
Academic training focuses heavily on theoretical concepts, but often lacks practical relevance. As a result, employees are not adequately prepared for real-world industry challenges in development, production, or technical sales.
Battery textbooks are often overly theoretical, quickly outdated, and offer little practical relevance. They are not suitable for efficiently training teams in a fast-moving industry.

Scientific publications are produced in large volumes, but most are irrelevant for practical industry work. Filtering out useful content requires significant time and expertise — making it an inefficient training resource for teams.
... often focuses on theoretical concepts rather than industry-relevant challenges. As a result, it provides little guidance for real-world applications in development, production, or technical sales.

Teams need access to a clearly structured and curated collection of relevant battery knowledge — without the noise and inconsistencies of publicly available sources.

Training must focus on real-world challenges in battery and automotive industries. Practical, application-oriented content enables employees to make informed decisions and contribute effectively in development, production, and technical roles.

Teams must be able to distinguish genuine technological innovations from hype. Clear classification helps avoid misaligned expectations and supports sound strategic and technical decision-making.
In 9 clear and structured chapters, your team gains a solid foundational understanding of battery technology — efficiently, consistently, and all in one place. This accelerates onboarding and enables a fast, reliable introduction to the field.
Each theoretical concept is paired with real-world examples from industry. Your team not only learns the fundamentals but also understands how to apply them in practice — enabling better decisions and effective integration into daily work.
Battery Essentials is continuously updated with new lessons on emerging technologies and industry trends. Your team stays ahead of developments and can identify relevant innovations early.

Tom Bötticher is a chemist and expert in electrochemical energy storage, a science communicator, and the founder of the battery start-up Litona.
is a trained chemist who completed his scientific work under renowned battery pioneer Prof. Jeff Dahn in Halifax, Canada. During this time, he conducted applied research for Tesla, addressing real industrial challenges and publishing his results in leading scientific journals such as Nature Materials.
He later founded the battery start-up Litona, which develops, produces, and commercializes next-generation sodium-ion battery cells for global customers. Since 2017, he has also been sharing insights from battery research and industry through various online formats, reaching hundreds of thousands of people every week.
With Battery Essentials, Tom condenses years of experience in sustainable energy storage systems into a clear, practical learning program — focused on real-world relevance and explained in an accessible way.
